Volleyball Advances To MIAC Championship With Straight Set Win Over Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus volleyball team showed no doubt in its MIAC Semifinal match Thursday night as it swept Saint Mary’s in straight sets 25-11, 25-20 and 25-18 to advance to the MIAC Championship for the first time since 2008. With the victory, the Gusties extend their program record win streak to 26 matches and improve to 26-2 overall.

Sherden, Taylor And Holtan Highlight 2015 MIAC Volleyball Awards

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2015 Volleyball Awards on Wednesday and Gustavus took home three of the top four honors. Rachelle Sherden earned Coach-of-the-Year, Alyssa Taylor (Sr., Trimont, Minn.) earned Player-of-the-Year and Nora Holtan (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) earned Rookie-of-the-Year. Along with Taylor and Holtan, Brittany Luethmers (Fy., Prior Lake, Minn.) and Taylor Trautman (Jr., Hutchinson, Minn.) were named to the All-Conference Team. This year’s four All-MIAC selections for Gustavus marks the second time in program history that four Gusties were selected.

Volleyball Runs The MIAC Table 11-0 With Straight Set Win Over Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus volleyball team beat Saint Mary’s in straight sets 25-17, 25-21 and 25-23 Saturday afternoon to finish the regular season 25-2 overall and a perfect 11-0 in the MIAC. The decisive victory gave the Gusties their 25th straight win, an undisputed regular season conference championship and marked the first perfect conference record since the 1985 team went 11-0 in the league.

Volleyball Claims MIAC Title Outright, Tops Hamline In Four Sets

The Gustavus volleyball team claimed the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship outright Wednesday night as it defeated Hamline University in four sets 25-19, 25-27, 25-19 and 25-23. The conference title is Gustavus’ first since 1986 and fifth overall. The Gusties also extended their program record win streak to 24 matches and now own a 24-2 overall record with a 10-0 mark in the MIAC.

Volleyball Looks To Clinch MIAC Title Outright Tonight During Senior Night

The Gustavus volleyball team returns to the friendly confines of Gus Young Court at 7 p.m. tonight as it hosts Hamline University. The Gusties enter the match after a pair of five-set road victories to improve to 23-2 overall and 9-0 in the MIAC, while the Pipers are coming off a 3-1 win over St. Olaf last Saturday to move to 11-13 overall and 3-6 in the league. A Gustavus win tonight would clinch the MIAC regular season championship outright, which is the first conference title since 1986.

The Gustavus volleyball team claimed a key road win Friday night as it defeated Concordia in a five-set thriller by scores of 22-25, 25-14, 25-17, 27-29 and 15-10. With the win, the Gusties extend their record win streak to 22 and improve to 22-2 overall and 8-0 in the MIAC.

Volleyball Sets Program Record For Consecutive Wins, Beats Simpson And Loras

A 31-year old record stands no longer as the Gustavus volleyball team won its 20th and 21st straight matches Saturday, setting a new program record for consecutive victories. The Gusties defeated both Simpson College and Loras College in straight sets, breaking the previous program record of 20 consecutive wins to start the 1984 season. The Gusties are now 21-2 on the season.

Volleyball Wins In Four Sets Over Macalester To Stay Unbeaten In The MIAC

The Gustavus volleyball team defeated Macalester College in four sets Wednesday night to improve to 19-2 overall and 7-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Gusties won by set scores of 25-15, 25-6, 22-25 and 25-14 to increase their win streak to 19 matches, which is one behind the program record.

Volleyball Tops Carleton In Straight Sets

The Gustavus volleyball team continued its winning ways Friday night as it claimed its 17th straight victory, defeating Carleton College in straight sets 25-23, 25-23 and 25-13. The Gusties improve to 17-2 overall and 6-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

After a slow start Wednesday night, the Gustavus volleyball team rebounded from a first set loss and claimed the next three for a 3-1 win over Waldorf College.
