Holtan Earns Second Straight MIAC Volleyball Setter Of The Week Award

Nora Holtan (So., Rochester, Minn.) earned her second-straight MIAC Volleyball Setter/Libero-of-the-Week award as she led the Gusties to a 3-0 mark last week with 120 assists (10.00 per set), 26 digs and 22 kills. Holtan had a career night in the team's 3-2 upset of No. 12 Bethel to open MIAC play. The sophomore recorded an impressive triple-double with 55 assists (11.00 per set), had 16 kills with no errors (.593), and 22 digs, all career-highs for Holtan. She went on to add 65 assists over the weekend in a 3-0 win over Lakeland and a 3-1 win over Dominican to help her team improve to 10-2 this season (1-0 MIAC).

Volleyball Wins A Pair At UW-Eau Claire Tournament

The Gustavus volleyball team competed in the UW-Eau Claire Invite on Saturday and came away with a pair of victories to improve to 10-2 overall. The Gusties opened the day with a shutout win over Lakeland and followed with a four-set win over Dominican.

Volleyball Opens MIAC Play With Five-Set Win Over No. 12 Bethel

The rematch of the 2015 MIAC Volleyball Championship didn’t disappoint Wednesday night as Gustavus upended No. 12-ranked Bethel University in a five-set thriller. The MIAC opener victory moves the Gusties to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the Royals drop to 8-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Nora Holtan Named MIAC Volleyball Setter Of The Week

Gustavus (7-2) won four of its five matches last week behind a big-time performance from setter Nora Holtan (So., Rochester, Minn.), who was named to the Loras All-Tournament Team for her performance. The sophomore setter finished with 203 assists (9.67 per set) and added 29 kills (.311 hitting percentage) and 35 digs in the five matches. She had at least 31 assists in each match, including a career-high 52 assists in a 3-2 win over No. 13-ranked Carthage and a 49-assist, 14-kill performance in a 3-2 victory over Wartburg. The Gusties also defeated Martin Luther (3-0) and Loras (3-0) and dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to Cornell.

The Gustavus volleyball team defeated Wartburg College and Loras College Saturday at the Loras College Invitational. The Gusties finished with a 3-1 record during the tournament and move to 7-2 overall.

The Gustavus volleyball team split the opening day at the Loras College Invitational Friday in Dubuque, Iowa. The Gusties (5-2, 0-0 MIAC) began the day falling to Cornell College 2-3 but then defeated No. 13 ranked Carthage College 3-2.

Volleyball Splits Day One At Elmhurst Tournament Against Ranked Opponents

The Gustavus volleyball team kicked off its 2016 season Friday at the Elmhurst Tournament and split the first two games. The Gusties dropped a five-set heartbreaker to No. 18-ranked Elmhurst in game one, which ended 18-16 in the final set, and then bounced back with a five-set victory over No. 14 UW-Whitewater.

AVCA Names Sherden Region Coach Of The Year, Taylor And Holtan Also Honored

The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its Division III Regional Awards on Thursday and three Gusties were honored. Rachelle Sherden was named Central Region Coach of the Year, while Alyssa Taylor (Sr., Trimont, Minn.) was named All-Region as a middle blocker and Nora Holtan (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) was named Honorable Mention and the Central Region Freshman of the Year.

Volleyball Comes Up Short In Hard-Fought Loss To UW-Eau Claire

The Gustavus volleyball team’s dream season came to an end in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday as the Gusties lost in four sets to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire by scores of 13-25, 25-17, 20-25 and 26-28. Gustavus battled all the way to the end, but came up short to finish the season with a remarkable 27-3 record.
