Men’s Soccer Set for NCAA Competition This Weekend

The Gustavus men’s soccer team is set to compete in the NCAA Championships Saturday as it takes on Dominican (Ill.) in the first round, hosted by Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The Gusties and Stars kick off at 5:30 p.m., which follows Luther vs. Knox at 3 p.m. The two winners face each other at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Volleyball Set for NCAA Regional Competition This Weekend

The No. 8 Gustavus volleyball team is set to host a NCAA Division III regional this weekend and opens the tournament at 8 p.m. Friday against Minnesota-Morris. The Gusties (27-2) earned an automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament by winning the MIAC playoffs, while UM-Morris (21-11) also earned an automatic qualifier by winning the UMAC playoffs.

The Gustavus men’s soccer team Monday was selected as an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. The Gusties, winners of the MIAC regular season championship, will compete in the Decorah, Iowa Regional, hosted by Luther and will take on Dominican (Ill.) in the first round on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Gustavus Selected to Host NCAA Volleyball Regional

For the first time since adopting an eight-team regional format, Gustavus Adolphus College has been selected as a host site for a NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Regional. As the No. 1 seed in the Central Region and No. 8 team in the latest AVCA poll, Gustavus will host an eight-team regional Friday through Sunday at Gus Young Court inside the Lund Center in Saint Peter, Minn.

Gustavus throwing specialist Michael Hensch (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) competed in the shot put Friday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships and took 12th place with a heave of 52-1.25. Hensch exceeded his entry as he was seeded 18th out of 20.

Alhouni Caps Impressive Career In Quarterfinal Of NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championships

The collegiate career of Gustavus men’s tennis ace Mohanad Alhouni (Sr., Tripoli, Libya) came to a close Friday at the NCAA Singles Championships. In the quarterfinal round, Alhouni lost 6-3, 6-2 to Bowdoin’s Grant Urken, finishing his senior season with a 29-9 singles record.

Mohanad Alhouni (Sr., Tripoli, Libya) and Patrick Whaling (Jr., Manakin Sabot, Va.) competed in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Individual Championships on Thursday and came out with mixed results. Alhouni won his first two singles matches to advance to the national quarterfinals, while he and Whaling lost in the first round of the doubles tournament.

Hartmann Ends Season In Second Round Of NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championships

Gustavus women’s tennis ace Briana Hartmann (Jr., Owatonna, Minn.) Thursday experienced her first NCAA singles tournament, winning the first match and losing in the second round against the defending national champion. Hartmann, who earned All-America status in the fall by winning the ITA Midwest Regional and taking fifth at the Oracle Cup, finishes her season with a 26-10 singles record.

Gustie Swimmers Conclude Competition At NCAA Championships

The NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships concluded Saturday as Maggie Webster (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) and Kate Reilly (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) swam the 100 freestyle, and Tanner Sonnek (Jr., North Mankato, Minn.) competed in the 200 breaststroke. Webster and Reilly finished the 100 free in 20th and 30th place, respectively, with personal best times of 51.41 and 51.85. Sonnek was disqualified in the 200 breaststroke after the official deemed a turn violation.
