Baseball Edged by Minnesota State, Mankato 8-7
The Gustavus Adolphus College baseball team fell to 7-4 on the season following an 8-7 loss to Minnesota State University Tuesday afternoon in Mankato. Mike DesLauriers led the Gusties with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate, but MSU's Zach Danelson provided the game's big hit--a solo home run in the sixth inning--to give the Mavericks their final lead. Gustavus will open MIAC play Saturday at St. Thomas.
Women’s Indoor Track and Field Competes at Minnesota Parents’ Day Open
The Gustavus women's indoor track and field team competed at Parents' Day Open hosted by the University of Minnesota. Competing against athletes from all three divisions of the NCAA, the Gusties came away with seven top ten finishes, led by Jill Fagerstrom's fifth place in the 5000-meter run (19:13.42) and Sari Lindeman's sixth place in the long jump (16-8 1/2).
Nordic Skiing Sweeps Team Titles at Minnesota Collegiate Championships
The Gustavus Adolphus men's and women's Nordic ski teams swept the team titles at the Minnesota Collegiate Championships Saturday at the Woodland Trails near Elk River, Minn. The tandem of Laura Edlund and Kelly Chaudoin took the women's race as Gusties teams occupied the top four spots. The best placed Gustavus men were Kevin Patzoldt and Scott Kyser in fourth.
Gymnastics Fourth at Best of Minnesota
The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team placed fourth at Saturday's Best of Minnesota meet at the University of Minnesota with a team score of 171.375. Brittany Moore tied for third on the vault with a 9.700 as the Gusties posted four career-high scores on the apparatus and another on the balance beam.
Indoor Track and Field Competes at MSU Open
The Gustavus Adolphus indoor track and field teams made the short trek to Mankato Saturday to take part in the MSU Open hosted by Minnesota State University, Mankato. Andy Klaers won the weight throw with a toss of 54 feet, 5.5 inches. No team scores were kept.
Daw Sweep Leads Women’s Nordic Ski to Team Title at NCAA Qualifier #4
Led by wins by Chandra Daw in both the Classic and Freestyle races, the Gustavus women's Nordic ski team captured the team title at the Minnesota College Nordic Ski Championships held at the Saint John's Trails in Collegeville last weekend. Gustavus (133 points) finished ahead of St. Olaf (121) and UW-Green Bay (103). The event also serves as the fourth of five CCSA/NCAA Regional qualifiers.
Women’s Cross Country Fourth at Roy Griak Invitational
The Gustavus women's cross country team placed three runners in the top 25 and finished fourth of 28 teams in the Maroon (Division III) race at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday. Carleton won the team title with 93 points, while UW-Eau Claire edged St. Olaf for second place, 112-114. Junior Hailey Harren (Cold Spring, Minn.) picked up her third top-two finish in three races this season with a second place finish.
Men’s Cross Country Places 25th at Roy Griak Invitational
The Gustavus men's cross country team finished 25th of 43 teams in the Maroon (Division II & III) race at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Saturday. The Gusties scored 730 points, while UW-La Crosse picked up the team title with a score of 80. Junior Alex Zupan (Monona, Wis.) led the Gusties, traversing the 8-kilometer course with a 73rd-place time of 27:12.
