Second Half Surge Comes Up Short, Women’s Basketball Falls 66-54 To St. Thomas In MIAC Championship

Trailing by 15 points at halftime, the Gustavus women’s basketball team rallied at the onset of the second half and cut the St. Thomas lead to two at the midway point. The Gusties kept it close until the 11th-ranked Tommies capitalized on 7-of-10 free throws late in the game for a 66-54 victory in St. Paul on Saturday afternoon for the MIAC Playoff Championship.

 

Women’s Basketball Advances To MIAC Championship With 61-49 Win Over Concordia

The second-seeded Gustavus women’s basketball team advanced to the MIAC Championship for the first time in five years with a 61-49 victory over third-seeded Concordia Thursday night in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties will travel to St. Paul on Saturday to take on No. 1 St. Thomas for the MIAC Championship at 3:00 p.m.

 

Molly Geske Named Capital One Academic All-America Second Team

Gustavus women’s basketball player Molly Geske (Mendota Heights, Minn.) has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Women’s Basketball Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Geske, a senior guard/forward, is a public accounting major with a 3.96 GPA.

 

Women’s Basketball Caps Regular Season With 70-53 Win Over Bethel

After dropping its last two road tests, the Gustavus women’s basketball team finished the regular season on a positive note heading into the MIAC Playoffs with a 70-53 victory over Bethel on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties finish the regular season with a 19-6 overall record and 17-5 mark in the MIAC.

 

Strong Second Half Propels Women’s Basketball Past Saint Mary’s 70-56

After a closely contested first half, the Gustavus women’s basketball team pulled away from Saint Mary’s in the second for a 70-56 victory Wednesday night in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties improve to 18-4 overall and 16-3 in the MIAC, securing at least the No. 3 seed in the MIAC Playoffs and another game at Gus Young Court.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team got back in the win column Monday night in St. Peter, Minn. with a 63-58 victory over Augsburg. The Gusties improve to 16-3 overall and 14-2 in the MIAC, while the Auggies fall to 11-8 overall and 8-8 in conference action.

 

No. 20 St. Thomas Ends Women’s Basketball 12-Game Win Streak 72-52

The Gustavus women’s basketball team jumped out to a 3-2 lead to open Saturday afternoon’s game in St. Peter, Minn., but 20th-ranked St. Thomas responded with 12 unanswered points and never looked back en rout to a 72-52 Tommie victory. The loss ended a program record 12-game MIAC win streak for the Gusties, who fall to 15-3 overall and 13-2 in the conference, while the Tommie stay perfect in the league at 15-0 and 17-1 overall.

 

Women’s Basketball Notches 12th Consecutive Win 70-44 Over Carleton

The Gustavus women’s basketball team cruised to its 12th consecutive victory with a 70-44 decision over Carleton Wednesday night in St. Peter, Minn. completing the regular season series sweep. The Gusties improve to 15-2 overall and 13-1 in the MIAC, while the Knights fall to 2-15 overall and 1-13 in conference action.
