The Gustavus men’s cross country team Saturday took fourth place out of 16 teams at Carleton’s Running of the Cows. UW-La Crosse won the event, Carleton took second, and Minnesota State-Mankato placed third.

Golf Teams to Take Part in Competitive Invitationals This Weekend

The Gustavus men’s and women’s golf teams are both in action this weekend. The men will take part in the Saint John’s Fall Invitational, played at Greystone Golf Club and Black Berry Ridge, while the women are competing in the St. Kate’s Invite at the Wilds Golf Club. Both tournaments run Saturday and Sunday.

The Gustavus men’s soccer team hosts Saint Mary’s Saturday at 1 p.m. for its first home MIAC match of the 2019 season. The Gusties enter the contest 5-1 and 1-0 in the MIAC while Saint Mary’s is 3-2 overall and has not yet played a conference contest.

After nearly three weeks away from competition, the Gustavus cross country teams are set to race Saturday at Carleton’s Running of the Cows. The men’s 8k race begins at 10:30 a.m. and the women’s 6k follows at 11:30.

The Gustavus athletic training department is participating in the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association (GLATA) “Safety in Football Campaign,” which aims to lessen the risks of injury by employing an athletic trainer and keep the focus on the fun and camaraderie of football.

The Gustavus men’s soccer home match against Wartburg originally scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday is postponed to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 20. The Gustavus soccer fields are unsuitable for play after the recent rainfall, causing the postponement.

Men’s Golf Grabs Second Place at Pioneer Creek Collegiate

The Gustavus men’s golf team posted the best second-round score Sunday at the Pioneer Creek Collegiate, jumping up a spot to finish in second place with a 297-290-293-880. St. Thomas won the event with a 287-292-284-863.

The Gustavus men’s golf team is in third place after the first round of the Pioneer Creek Collegiate. The Gusties shot a nine-over 297 and are 10 strokes behind the leader St. Thomas. Saint John’s is in second at 293.

The Gustavus men’s and women’s golf teams are both in action Saturday and Sunday. The men travel to Maple Plain, Minn. to compete at the Pioneer Creek Collegiate while the women are in Waverly, Iowa for the Wartburg Fall Invitational.

2019 Football Season Preview

The Gustavus football team will kick off its 2019 campaign Saturday at Hollingsworth Field as the Gusties host the Martin Luther College Knights for a 1 p.m. contest. Last season the Gusties finished 6-4 overall including a 5-3 mark in the MIAC to finish fourth.
