Gustavus Adolphus senior baseball player Mike DesLauriers (Minnetonka, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). DesLauriers, a shortstop, carries a 3.64 grade point average with a major in public accounting. A total of four MIAC players were recognized on either the first or second team.
The Gustavus baseball team was unable to overcome early deficits in each game of a doubleheader as it was swept by Concordia by the scores of 15-0 and 10-6 on Friday in St. Peter. The Cobbers scored five runs to start the first game and six runs in the beginning of the second game to force the Gusties to play from behind in both games. Gustavus, which dropped to 11-11 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC, will face Bethel in a conference doubleheader on Saturday in Arden Hills at 1 p.m.
The Gustavus baseball team opened its 2009 schedule in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome by splitting two games with Loras College on Saturday morning. The Gusties, who are 1-1 on the season, dropped the first game 4-2, but staged a comeback in the latter innings of the second game for a 7-3 win in eight innings.
