The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released its 2017 Football Postseason Awards Tuesday, with Casey Decker (Sr., Mapleton, Minn.) earning a spot on the First Team Defense, four on the Second Team, and three honorable mentions.

Veldman, Berkner Garner MIAC Football Player Of The Week Accolades

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its football Athlete of the Week awards this afternoon, with Gustavus quarterback Michael Veldman (Jr., Becker, Minn.) earning the Offensive Player of the Week honor and Matt Berkner (Jr., Sleepy Eye, Minn.) receiving the Defensive Player Of The Week award. 

Football Downed By No. 7/8 Johnnies 41-17

The Gustavus football team couldn't overcome a 34-point first half deficit during a 41-17 loss against the No. 7/8-ranked Saint John's University Johnnies Saturday afternoon at Clemens Stadium. 

Turnovers Prove Costly, Football Downed 27-17 At Concordia

Turnovers proved to be the difference in a 27-17 loss for the Gustavus football team at No. 16 Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday. The Gusties led 14-10 at halftime, but the Cobbers were able to turn an interception and a fumble recovery into 14 points, while holding the visitors to a field goal in the final 30 minutes to secure the victory. Gustavus drops to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while Concordia remains unbeaten at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.  

Late Push Cut Short In Football’s 20-12 Loss At UW-River Falls

The Gustavus football team was defeated 20-12 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday evening, as the Gusties wrap up their non-conference action with a 1-1 overall record.

Baseball Splits With Defending MIAC Playoff Champ Saint John’s

The Gustavus baseball team Monday salvaged a split against last year’s Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff champion Saint John’s, losing the first game 2-0 before winning game two 7-3. The split moves the Gusties to 17-9 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC, while the Johnnies move to 17-8 overall and 7-3 in the league.

Baseball Erupts For 16 Runs In Game One, But Splits With Hamline

The Gustavus baseball team Saturday erupted for 16 runs in a decisive 12-run game one decision, but settled for a split after dropping the second game 8-3 to Hamline. The Gusties move to 14-8 overall and 4-2 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while Hamline moves to 10-14 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Baseball Swept On Final Day Of Tucson Invite

The Gustavus baseball team wrapped up play at the Tucson Invite Wednesday with a pair of close losses. The Gusties lost 13-10 to Middlebury before falling 6-5 to Williams, moving their record to 8-6 overall.

Deja Vu, Baseball Comes Back For 13-12 Win Over Middlebury

New day, similar story. For the second straight game, the Gustavus baseball team erased a late-inning deficit for a come-from-behind victory over Middlebury. The Gusties won 13-12 after trailing 10-6 to start the sixth inning, but a six-run frame gave the Black and Gold a lead it would not relinquish for their seventh straight victory. The Gusties are now 8-3, which marks the best start to a season since 2006 (8-3), along with the longest winning streak since 2008 (nine games).

Six-Run Ninth Inning Propels Baseball To 8-1 Win At Mount Marty

The Gustavus baseball team exploded for six runs in the ninth inning Saturday, leading to an 8-1 victory over Mount Marty College in non-conference action. The Gusties pick up their first win of the season, moving to 1-2 overall.
