Men’s Soccer Stays in Hunt For MIAC Title with 1-0 Win Over Macalester
The Gustavus men's soccer team kept its hopes alive for the MIAC regular season title with a 1-0 win over Macalester in St. Peter, Minn. on Tuesday afternoon. Bret Vander Streek scored the game-winner for the Gusties off an assist from Fraser Horton in the seventh minute of the match. Gustavus moved into a first place tie with Carleton after posting the win over the Scots. The Gusties play at St. Thomas on Saturday, while the Knights play at St. Olaf with the conference title on the line.
Wide Receiver Chad Arlt Sets School Record As Football Team Defeats Macalester 41-12
The Gustavus football team scored six of the first eight times it had possession of the ball and rolled to a 41-12 non-conference win over Macalester College at Hollingsworth Field in St. Peter on Saturday afternoon. Junior wide receiver Chad Arlt had a big day for the Gusties as he made 12 catches for 151 yards and one touchdown, while also breaking the school record for catches in a season.
Baseball Sweeps Macalester 9-5, 12-4
The Gustavus Adolphus College baseball team improved to 17-9 overall, 11-3 in the MIAC with a doubleheader sweep of Macalester Tuesday in St. Paul. The Gusties took game one 9-5 and game two by a 12-4 margin. Mike DesLauriers went 7-for-8 with six runs scored on the day. Tony Konicek finished with four hits, including a triple, to become Gustavus' all-time leader in both categories.
Men’s Tennis Picks Up Four Dual Wins Saturday
The Gustavus Adolphus men's tennis team improved to 7-3 overall Saturday with dual wins over South Dakota State (9-0), Minneosta State Mankato (8-1), Macalester (9-0) and Duquesne (6-3). Andy Bryan, Jesse Brauer, and Mike Burdakin each went 4-0 on the day with two singles wins and two doubles wins. Ben Tomasek and John Kauss were each 3-1.
Men’s Basketball Picks Up 79-70 Win at Macalester
The Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team opened the second half of the MIAC schedule with a 79-70 win over Macalester Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. Andrew Doble led the Gusties with 21 points followed by 20 from Trevor Wittwer. Gustavus (9-7, 7-4 MIAC) will face Augsburg Monday night in Minneapolis.
Men’s Basketball Slips Past Macalester 77-72
The Gustavus men's basketball team opened up MIAC play with a 77-72 win over Macalester on Wednesday night in St. Peter. The Gusties trailed 28-35 at the half and trailed by as much as 11 in the second half. The Gusties rallied to take their first lead of the night at 70-69 on a Phil Sowden lay-up with 2:14 left to play. Tyler Kramer made two free throws with :06 left to secure the victory. Trevor Wittwer led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field.
Women’s Basketball Downs Macalester 46-30
The Gustavus women's basketball team defeated Macalester 46-30 on Wednesday evening on Gus Young Court. The Gusties led 12-11 after the first half and outscored the Scots 34-19 in the second half to claim the 16-point victory. Gustie Bri Monahan led all scorers with 13 points.
Football Runs Past Macalester 51-0
The Gustavus Adolphus football team rushed for 287 yards and five touchdowns en route to a 51-0 nonconference win over Macalester Saturday in St. Paul. Ray Wilson (13 rushes, 124 yards) and Mitch Anderson (11 rushes, 116 yards) each surpassed 100 yards on the day. The Gusties will host Augsburg in their home finale next Saturday at 1 pm.
Women’s Soccer Loses to Macalester 1-0 in Double Overtime
The Gustavus women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Macalester College 1-0 in the second overtime at St. Peter on Saturday afternoon. It took 105 minutes for Macalester to record the game-winning goal by first-year Rose Betzler. The Gusties fall to 4-6-2 overall, 1-4-2 in the MIAC while the Scots improve to 8-0-4, 4-0-2 in the conference.
Baseball Sweeps Macalester, Moves Winning Streak to Seven Games
The Gustavus baseball team put 22 runs on the board Tuesday and ran its winning streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of Macalester in St. Peter. The Gusties took game one 11-2 and won game two 11-1. Shea Roehrkasse went 5-for-7 with two RBI, while Mike DesLauriers went 5-for-6 with two RBI to lead Gustavus. The Gusties improve to 21-10 overall, 9-5 in the MIAC and will travel to Bethel for a doubleheader Saturday.
