Seven Men’s Tennis Players Earn 2012 All-MIAC Honors, Valentini Named Coach Of The Year

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its 2012 Men’s Tennis Awards on Tuesday and three Gustavus players garnered All-Conference in both singles and doubles. Junior Amrik Donkena (Rochester, Minn.) and sophomores Juan Luis Chu (Lima, Peru) and Mya Smith-Dennis (Savage, Minn.) were selected by a vote of the league’s coaches as representatives on the 2012 All-MIAC singles and doubles teams.

Joey MacGibbon Named MIAC Tennis Athlete Of The Week

Gustavus sophomore Joey MacGibbon has been named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week for his contributions to Gustavus’ MIAC Playoff title this past weekend. The Gusties defeated St. Thomas in the semifinals 5-1 and Carleton in the championship match 5-0, and MacGibbon claimed two victories at No. 3 doubles and one at No. 5 singles.

Men’s Tennis Claims MIAC Playoff Title

The Gustavus men's tennis team earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship by winning the 2012 MIAC Playoff Title with impressive wins over St. Thomas, 5-1 in the semifinals, and Carleton, 5-0 in the championship match on Saturday night in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties defended last year’s playoff title, improving to 20-7, and achieved their fifth MIAC postseason championship since the tournament began in 2007.
