McPartland And Wirtjes Named To 2009-10 All-Conference Team
Gustavus Adolphus senior Ryan McPartland and junior Phil Wirtjes were named to the 2010 MIAC All-Conference team on Thursday afternoon. St. Thomas’s Tyler Nicolai was named MIAC Player of the Year, as Augsburg Head Coach Aaron Griess was named MIAC Coach of the Year. Senior Jesse Van Sickle was named Honorable Mention All-Conference and is a member of the 2010 All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
Men’s Basketball Victorious Over Saint John’s 79-74, Secures #2 Seed In MIAC Playoffs
The Gustavus men’s basketball team secured the number two seed in the MIAC Playoffs with a 79-74 victory over Saint John’s on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. Gustavus had four players in double figure scoring, as Jesse Van Sickle scored 14 points, Sam Paulson scored 13, and Tyler Grey scored 12. Ryan McPartland registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Van Sickle Scores 25 Points As Men’s Basketball Defeats Bethel 86-52
The Gustavus men’s basketball team scored a season-high 86 points to defeat Bethel 86-52 on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties were led by Jesse Van Sickle who scored a season-high 25 points on 10-for-17 shooting. With the victory, Gustavus moves back into sole possession of second place in the MIAC standings with just two regular season games left to play. The Gusties improve to 14-9 overall and 12-6 in the MIAC, as Bethel drops to 11-12 overall and 7-11 in the MIAC.
Men’s Basketball Gets Back On Track With 63-44 Win Over Macalester
The Gustavus men’s basketball team got back on the winning track with a 63-44 win over Macalester on Wednesday night in St. Peter, Minn. Sam Paulson matched his season-high with 15 points, as Jesse Van Sickle added 13. The Gusties improve to 13-7 overall and 11-4 in the MIAC, as Macalester drops to 2-19 overall and 0-16 in the MIAC.
Men’s Basketball Continues To Struggle, Falls To Augsburg 75-70
Augsburg’s Jon Cassens scored 17 second half points, leading the Auggies to a 75-70 victory over the Gustavus men’s basketball team on Monday night in St. Peter, Minn. Augsburg closed the gap on a 12-point second half Gustavus lead to hand the Gusties their second consecutive MIAC loss. Augsburg’s David Olson scored a game-high 23 points, as Jesse Van Sickle led the Gusties with 18 points.
Van Sickle Scores 21 Points As Men’s Basketball Defeats Concordia 79-72
Senior Jesse Van Sickle scored 21 points for the second time this season to lead the Gustavus men's basketball team to a 79-72 victory over Concordia Saturday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn. Van Sickle shot 6-for-8 from the field while going 4-for-6 from behind the arc in the game. Four other Gustavus players scored in double figures as Ryan McPartland had 13 points, Dan Schmidtknect and Tyler Grey both scored 11, while Phil Wirtjes scored 10. Concordia's Darrin Olmscheid scored a game-high 29 points on 8-for-21 shooting.

The Gustavus men's basketball team got back on the winning track with a 76-65 victory over Saint John's Monday night in Collegeville, Minn. Four Gustavus players scored in double-digits as Phil Wirtjes and Ryan McPartland led the team with 15 points each. Saint John's Sam Blank scored a game-high 18 points while shooting 6-8 from behind the arch.
Seth Anderson Leads Men’s Basketball To 56-51 Upset Win Over #5 St. Thomas
Sophomore Seth Anderson scored 13 points in the the second half to lead the Gustavus men's basketball team to a 56-51 upset win over #5 St. Thomas Wednesday night in St. Peter, Minn. Anderson scored eight of the Gusties final 13 points, including six free throws in the final five minutes of play. The Gusties snapped a St. Thomas 32-game MIAC win steak with the victory and are now alone atop the MIAC standings.
Strong Second Half Propels Men’s Basketball Past St. Olaf 69-56
The Gustavus men's basketball team shot 83% (15-18) from the field in the second half on Wednesday night in St. Peter, propelling them to a 69-56 victory over St. Olaf. The Gusties overcame a 16-point second half deficit by making a 23-2 scoring run in just over eight minutes. Gustavus was as led by Sam Paulson (15 pts) and Ryan McPartland (13 pts).
Men’s Basketball Suffers 80-73 Setback To Hawaii Pacific University
The Gustavus men's basketball suffered a 80-73 loss to non-conference opponent Hawaii Pacific University on Monday night in Honolulu, Hawaii. Hawaii Pacific's Mike Helton led all scorers with 29 points. The Sea Warriors outshot the Gusties 53.4% (31-58) to 37.7% (26-69) in the game.
