Football Hosts St. Thomas In Season Finale On Saturday
The Gustavus Adolphus football team finishes its 2015 campaign on Saturday with a 1:10 p.m. matchup against No. 4-ranked St. Thomas. The Gusties enter the game with a 7-2 overall record and 5-2 mark in the MIAC after a thrilling 41-24 come-from-behind victory over Concordia last week, while the Tommies are 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the MIAC after defeating Carleton 80-3 last week in St. Paul.
Mitch Hendricks And Iker Ortiz-Hidalgo Named MIAC Players-Of-The-Week
The Gustavus football team pulled off one of the more remarkable wins in recent memory Saturday against Concordia. Senior quarterback Mitch Hendricks accounted for five total touchdowns in the win, including two scoring passes in a 15-second span to lift the Gusties to their remarkable win, while the strong play of junior defensive lineman Iker Ortiz-Hidalgo helped keep his team in position to pull off the comeback win as he made a number of big plays on defense, including a key fourth-quarter fumble recovery. For their performances, Hendricks and Ortiz-Hidalgo earned MIAC Offensive and Defensive Players-of-the-Week, respectively.
Football Suffers First Loss Of Season, 49-27 To Saint John’s
The No. 20-ranked Gustavus football team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 49-27 to No. 14/15-ranked Saint John’s. The Gusties drop to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Johnnies improve to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC.
