Women’s Soccer Falls To Simpson 3-2 In Double OT
The Gustavus women’s soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 double overtime loss to Simpson College on Saturday afternoon in a sunny St. Peter, Minn. Simpson tied the match at 2-2 with :33 seconds left in regulation, then went on to score the game-winning goal in double overtime. Gustavus's Ashley Anderson led the team with two goals on the afternoon.
Turnovers Prove Costly As Football Falls To Wartburg 27-6
The Gustavus Adolphus football team opened its 2010 season with a 27-6 loss at the hands of Wartburg College Saturday afternoon on Hollingsworth Field in St. Peter, Minn. Wartburg had 432 yards of total offense, compared to 239 for Gustavus. Wartburg linebacker Blake Suckow recorded a game-high 13 tackles (10 solo, 6 asst.). Gustavus falls to 0-1 on the season, while Wartburg improves to 2-0.
Volleyball 3-1 at Border Battle Tournament
The Gustavus volleyball team had a successful weekend, registering a 3-1 record at the MIAC-IIAC Border Battle Tournament. The Gusties, one of four teams that finished with a 3-1 mark, opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over Luther on Friday afternoon before falling to Simpson 3-2 on Friday evening. Gustavus responded Saturday with victories over University of Dubuque (3-2) and Loras (3-0). Gustie junior Becca Thompson was named to the seven-member All-Tournament Team by the coaches.
