Women’s Soccer Opens 2018 Season With 4-1 Victory Over Redlands

The Gustie women's soccer team got its season off on the right foot with a decisive 4-1 victory over Redlands.

2018 Women’s Soccer Season Preview

The Gustavus women’s soccer team begins its season this weekend with two contests in California. The first match is versus the University of Redlands on Saturday, then the team travels to Chapman University on Sunday. The Gusties return a majority of their roster that went to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) championship game last season, including four of their top six point-scorers and look forward to big things from their youth as they look to make a run in the MIAC again this season.

Women’s Soccer set to host 4th Annual Run for Kicks 5k on Oct. 14

The Gustavus women’s soccer team is set to host its fourth annual Run for Kicks 5k fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 14. The race begins at 10 a.m. on the paved and limestone trails of the Linneaus Arboretum on west side of the Gustavus campus.

Leininger Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

Recent Gustavus Adolphus College graduate Sophie Leininger (Plymouth, Minn.) has been selected as a candidate for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Leininger was a four-year starter for the Gustavus women’s soccer team and the NCAA Woman of the Year nomination adds to a long list of accolades for the Wayzata product.

Women’s Soccer Announces 2018 Summer Camp Dates

The Gustavus women’s soccer team is excited to be hosting two different residential camps this summer. Head Coach Laura Burnett-Kurie and the Gusties will host a Co-Ed Youth Soccer Camp, ages 8-17 (June 24-27), and a high-level High School Girls Camp, grades 9-12 (July 8-11).

Josie Mazzone Awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced its 2017 fall sports postgraduate scholarship winners and Gustavus women’s soccer player Josie Mazzone (Sr., Rapid City, S.D.) was one of 58 student-athletes out of all three divisions to receive the prestigious scholarship.

Women’s Soccer Earns Team Ethics And Sportsmanship Award

United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award recipients for college soccer programs competing in the 2017 fall season and Gustavus was honored at the bronze level. The award recognizes teams for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game.

Leininger Named United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region

United Soccer Coaches announced on Friday the association’s Women’s Scholar All-America Teams for NCAA Division III and Gustavus senior Sophie Leininger (Plymouth, Minn.) was named to the Third Team. 

Ashley Becker Named United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America

United Soccer Coaches announced Thursday the association’s NCAA Division III Women’s All-America Teams on the eve of the 2017 NCAA Championship semifinals in Greensboro, N.C. and Gustavus goalkeeper Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) has been named First Team All-America. The First Team consists of 15 players, but just one keeper. Becker is also the only First Teamer from an institution that did not qualify for the national tournament.

Ashley Becker Earns Third Consecutive All-North Region Nod

For the third consecutive season, Gustavus women’s soccer goalkeeper Ashley Becker (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) has been named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-North Team, which was released Wednesday morning. After earning First Team honors in 2015 and Third Team last season, Becker is back on the First Team after claiming MIAC Defensive Player of the Year accolades.
