Holtan Earns Third Consecutive AVCA First-Team All-America Honor

For the third consecutive year, Gustavus volleyball setter Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) has been named AVCA First-Team All-America. Holtan becomes the first player in Gustavus program history and 31st in the nation to earn three First-Team All-America honors.

Volleyball Stunned by UM-Morris in Three Sets

The Gustavus volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking 3-0 loss in the opening round of the NCAA Championship on its home court Friday. UM-Morris won by scores of 26-24, 25-22, and 25-20 to shock the region’s top seed. The Gusties finish the season 27-3.

Volleyball Set for NCAA Regional Competition This Weekend

The No. 8 Gustavus volleyball team is set to host a NCAA Division III regional this weekend and opens the tournament at 8 p.m. Friday against Minnesota-Morris. The Gusties (27-2) earned an automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament by winning the MIAC playoffs, while UM-Morris (21-11) also earned an automatic qualifier by winning the UMAC playoffs.

Gustavus Selected to Host NCAA Volleyball Regional

For the first time since adopting an eight-team regional format, Gustavus Adolphus College has been selected as a host site for a NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Regional. As the No. 1 seed in the Central Region and No. 8 team in the latest AVCA poll, Gustavus will host an eight-team regional Friday through Sunday at Gus Young Court inside the Lund Center in Saint Peter, Minn.

Volleyball Wins MIAC Playoff Title in Five Set Thriller

The 2018 MIAC volleyball playoff championship could not have been scripted any better. Top-seed Gustavus claimed the first two sets, while second-seed Saint Benedict answered with wins in the third and fourth, setting up a thrilling fifth. Tied 13-13, senior Hanna Albers (St. Louis, Mo.) took over with a kill followed by a match-clinching ace to secure Gustavus its third MIAC playoff title in the past four years.

Volleyball Comes Back to Beat Augsburg in Five Sets, Advances to MIAC Title Match

It was a defensive battle to the end with long rallies throughout, and at the end of the day the Gustavus volleyball team was able to outlast Augsburg in five sets to advance to the MIAC championship match. The No. 8 Gusties trailed 2-1 after three sets (25-19, 23-25, 20-25), but were able to win the fourth 25-20 and the fifth in convincing fashion 15-6.

Holtan, Veldman Named October Student-Athletes of the Month

Volleyball setter Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) and football quarterback Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker, Minn.) have been named Gustavus Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Month, which is voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department and presented by Thrivent Financial.

Volleyball Hosts Augsburg in MIAC Semifinal Thursday Night

The No. 8 Gustavus volleyball team begins its postseason tonight in the MIAC semifinals against Augsburg. The top-seeded Gusties enter the match having won their last 17 with a 25-2 overall record. The fifth-seeded Auggies advanced to the semifinals with a five-set win at Bethel on Tuesday and boast a 22-7 overall record. Tonight’s match is a rematch of last season’s MIAC quarterfinal, which Augsburg won in four sets.

Volleyball Earns Multiple Honors in MIAC Postseason Awards

The Gustavus volleyball team received a number of honors Wednesday as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its volleyball awards. Rachelle Sherden was named MIAC Coach of the Year for the second time in four years, Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) earned Player of the Year for the third straight season, and Brittany Luethmers (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) garnered her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year honor.

Volleyball Completes Perfect Season in the MIAC

The No. 9 Gustavus volleyball team wrapped up the regular season Friday night with a four-set win at Saint Mary’s. The Gusties won by set scores of 25-12, 25-19, 17-25, and 25-18 to improve to 25-2 overall and finish the conference season with a perfect 11-0 record.
