Men’s Soccer Set for Road Test at Saint John’s Saturday

After enjoying nearly a week off, the Gustavus men’s soccer team is back in action Saturday at MIAC foe Saint John’s. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. at Haws Field. The Gusties enter the matchup on top of the MIAC standings with 16 points at 5-0-1 and 9-1-1 overall, while the Johnnies are four points behind at 4-2 and 8-2-1 overall.

Men’s Soccer vs. Saint Mary’s Pushed Back to Oct. 15

Due to unplayable field conditions at the Gustie Soccer Field, Wednesday's men's soccer match vs. Saint Mary's has been pushed back to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15. The Gusties next travel to Saint John's on Saturday for a 4 p.m. MIAC matchup.

Gibbons Named MIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week

Matt Gibbons (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) was a key factor in the Gustavus men's soccer team extending its unbeaten streak to eight matches by scoring three goals in two games last week. Gibbons tallied a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over St. Scholastica and then followed with a two-goal performance at Bethel as the Gusties won 3-1. His first goal against the Royals proved to be the game-winner. For his performance, Gibbons has been named the MIAC Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week.

The Gustavus men's soccer team took on Bethel on Saturday afternoon and won by a score of 3-1.

Another Late Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer to 1-0 Win Over Augsburg

For the second consecutive match, the Gustavus men’s soccer team Saturday ended a scoreless battle in the waning moments of regulation to claim a 1-0 conference victory. Matt Gibbons (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) weaved his way through Augsburg defenders in the box and rifled a shot into the right side of the net for what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute. Scott Heinen (So., Aurora, Ill.) was credited with the assist, his team-leading fifth of the season.

Men’s Soccer hosts Augsburg Saturday in Matchup of MIAC’s Top Teams

The Gustavus men's soccer team hosts Augsburg at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in a matchup featuring the top two teams in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Gusties, off to their best start since 2012 with a 6-1-1 overall record, are 3-0-1 in the MIAC with 10 points in the standings, while the Auggies are 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the league for nine points. 

Laurich Scores Game-Winner with Time Winding Down, Men’s Soccer Blanks St. Olaf 1-0

With less than three minutes remaining in Tuesday’s MIAC men’s soccer match between Gustavus and St. Olaf, Luke Laurich (Jr., Batavia, Ill.) played the role of hero, knocking home the game-winning goal as the Gusties went on to defeat the Oles 1-0. The victory moves the Gusties to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the MIAC, which keeps them on top of the conference standings with 10 points.

Men’s Soccer Ties No. 4 St. Thomas 1-1

The Gustavus men’s soccer team battled No. 4-ranked St. Thomas to a 1-1 double overtime draw Saturday evening. The Gusties move to 5-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the MIAC, while the Tommies move to 5-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the league.

Men’s Soccer Match at Viterbo Wednesday Postponed

The Gustavus men's soccer match at Viterbo University scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions at the Viterbo Outdoor Athletics Complex. The match will be rescheduled for a date in mid-October.

Severson Named MIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week

Gustavus men’s soccer goalkeeper Anders Severson (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) has been named MIAC Athlete of the Week after posting back-to-back shutouts in the first two conference matches of the season as Gustavus defeated Carleton, 2-0, and Concordia, 1-0, in MIAC play last week.
