Karim Ortiz Named MIAC Fooball Offensive Player Of The Week

Gustie running back Karim Ortiz (Jr., Cancun, Mexico) stepped into the starting lineup and into the spotlight in Saturday's 35-13, come-from-behind win over Augsburg. The junior had a tremendous day running the ball with 180 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. Ortiz averaged 6.7 yards per carry, and his top highlight was a 43-yard touchdown run that got Gustavus on the board early in the third quarter as the team scored 35 unanswered points in the second half to surge to victory and remain undefeated (3-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC). Both the two touchdowns and 180 yards are career-best marks for Ortiz.

The victory propels the Gusties to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Auggies drop to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.

The Gusties enter the game with a 2-0 overall record after defeating UW-River Falls 24-21 last Saturday, while the Auggies are 0-2 after losing 24-14 at Concordia-Wisconsin last week.
