Nolan Lepel Named MIAC Baseball Player-Of-The-Week

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Monday announced Gustavus catcher Nolan Lepel (Jr., Plato, Minn.) as its Baseball Player-of-the-Week. Lepel has had an immediate impact on the Gustavus baseball team as a transfer student, cementing his role as the starting catcher and cleanup hitter in the lineup. This past week in six games, Lepel hit .474, going 9-for-19 with seven runs, 11 RBI, five walks, a double, and a home run. His slugging percentage was .684, helped in part by a grand slam against Carleton, which tied the game in the seventh inning and eventually led to an extra inning victory.

Baseball Starts MIAC Play With Sweep At Carleton

The Gustavus baseball team started Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday with a sweep over Carleton College, winning 8-7 in eight innings in the first game, followed by an 8-5 win in game two. The sweep moves the Gusties to 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC, while the Knights fall to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Aney, Lepel Named March Student-Athletes-Of-The-Month

Women’s tennis player Katie Aney (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) and baseball catcher Nolan Lepel (Jr., Plato, Minn.) have been selected as the Gustavus Adolphus College March Female and Male Student-Athletes-of-the-Month, presented by Thrivent Financial and voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department.

The Gustavus baseball program is holding an Alumni Day on Saturday, April 22 during the doubleheader against St. Olaf. The first game starts at 1:00 p.m. with food and drink available for alumni starting at noon.

Deja Vu, Baseball Comes Back For 13-12 Win Over Middlebury

New day, similar story. For the second straight game, the Gustavus baseball team erased a late-inning deficit for a come-from-behind victory over Middlebury. The Gusties won 13-12 after trailing 10-6 to start the sixth inning, but a six-run frame gave the Black and Gold a lead it would not relinquish for their seventh straight victory. The Gusties are now 8-3, which marks the best start to a season since 2006 (8-3), along with the longest winning streak since 2008 (nine games).

The Gustavus baseball team won its sixth straight game Sunday in comeback fashion, beating Middlebury 10-8 to improve to 7-3 overall. Trailing 5-3 in the seventh inning, the Gusties erupted for five runs and held on for a two-run victory.

The Gustavus baseball team started its spring break trip on the right foot with a pair of wins Saturday at the Kino Sports Complex. The Gusties defeated UW-Superior 10-4 before shutting out Grinnell 4-0 to improve to 6-3 overall.

Baseball Travels To Arizona For Spring Break Trip

The Gustavus baseball team is set for its annual spring break trip, which this year takes place March 24-30 in Tucson, Ariz. The Gusties will play seven games in five days against four different teams at the Kino Sports Complex, former spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox. And for the first time, all seven spring break games will have live stats, courtesy of the Gustavus sports information department.
