Nelson Wins National Championship in 100H, Gustie Women Finish 10th Overall

The Gustavus track & field team concluded their 2022-23 season on the final day of the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships with a series of impressive performances. Birgen Nelson closed out her Gustavus track & field career as the most decorated track athlete in program history, winning the 100-hurdles and taking second in the 400-hurdles.

Poe Earns All-America, Nelson Qualifies for 100H Finals at NCAA Championships

Annika Poe and Birgen Nelson are no strangers to the national championship meet. In their third outdoor appearance together, the two seniors highlighted the second day of competition for the Gusties in the shot put and 100-hurdles. 

Nelson Qualifies for 400H Finals at NCAA Championships

The Gustavus track & field team began competition at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships, led by Birgen Nelson and Megan Geraets. Nelson competed in the 400-hurdles prelims and Geraets the 200-meter prelims to start the weekend. 

Nelson and Geraets to Open Track & Field Championships Thursday

The Gustavus track & field team is set to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by St. John Fisher University and Visit Rochester at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, N.Y. beginning Thursday. Birgen Nelson and Megan Geraets will open competition for the team Thursday. 

Four Gusties Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Region honorees on Friday and four Gustavus women were selected to the North Region Team.

Nelson Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week for Second Time

Birgen Nelson has been selected the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after another record-setting performance at the USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. last Saturday, and broke another NCAA DIII record. Nelson improved her 60-hurdles time to 8.33 in the semifinals for fourth best in her heat, qualifying her for the finals. Nelson then ran an 8.42 in the finals, taking sixth in the nation. Nelson has now run the top-5 fastest 60-hurdles times in NCAA DIII history. This is the second time this season that Nelson has been named National Athlete of the Week, after previously earning the national honor following her first-record breaking effort. This marks the second time in program history that a Gustavus track & field athlete has received the National honor.
