Women’s Golf to Participate in MIAC Championships This Weekend

The Gustavus Adolphus women's golf team will participate in the 2006 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's Golf Championships this weekend at Bunker Hills G.C. in Coon Rapids, Minn. The Gusties, who are in pursuit of their initial league crown, will be trying to knock off five-time defending champion St. Thomas.

Men’s Golf Holds Second Place Entering Final Day at MIAC Meet

The Gustavus Adolphus men's golf team bettered its first round score by five strokes Sunday at the 2006 MIAC Men's Golf Championships, but so did first-round leader Saint John's, giving the Johnnies an 18-stroke cushion heading into the final day of the league meet at Bunker Hills G.C. in Coon Rapids. Gustavus' Jordan Hawkinson fired the round of the tournament to this point on Sunday with a 70 to move into a tie for third place individually.

Lisa Brown Wins Javelin Throw at NCAA Championships; Cronen and Miest Earn All-America Honors

Gustavus Adolphus first-year Lisa Brown captured the national title in the javelin throw Saturday at the 2006 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. Brown's Division III season best toss of 154 feet, 6 inches bettered her own Gustavus record by nearly 18 feet. Ashley Cronen (fifth) and Tanner Miest (eighth) added top-eight finishes in the 800-meter run and the 110-meter hurdles, respectively.

Houlihan and Palen Repeat as NCAA Division III Women’s Doubles Champions

The Gustavus Adolphus women's tennis doubles team of Tara Houlihan and Lyndsey Palen successfully defended their Division III doubles crown Monday evening with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over DePauw's Liz Bondi and Amrita Padda at the 2006 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships in Santa Cruz, California. Houlihan and Palen become only the fifth doubles tandem to repeat in the 25-year history of the Division III championships.

Houlihan, also competing in singles, bowed out of the singles draw in the second round following a three-set first-round win.

Women’s Tennis Bows Out of NCAA Championships With 5-1 Loss to Emory

The seventh-rated Gustavus Adolphus women's tennis team fell to fifth-rated Emory University 5-1 Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Team Championships being held at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Defending NCAA Division III doubles champions Tara Houlihan and Lyndsey Palen picked up the lone Gustavus point with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Gustavus closes its season at 28-5.

Gustavus to Host 2006 MIAC Women’s Tennis Championships This Weekend

Gustavus Adolphus College plays host this weekend as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crowns its 25th champion in women's tennis. The host Gusties will be looking for their 15th consecutive league title and 21st overall. This year's tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday, April 28 with action at the Brown Outdoor Courts and Gibbs Courts. Play continues Saturday, April 29 with the championship and third-place matches slated for 1:00 p.m.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Sends Ten to NCAA Championships

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team has qualified ten swimmers to compete in the 2006 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The championships will take place March 16-18 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Brian Amundson, Clement Auyeung, Billy Cuevas, Scott Hagemeyer, Ben Hanson, Jeff Pearson, Greg Pokorski, Matt Stewart, Tyler Wakefield and Connor Ziegler will compete in four relay events and nine individual events.

Daw to Participate in NCAA Skiing Championships This Weekend

Gustavus senior Chandra Daw will participate in the 53rd NCAA National Collegiate Skiing Championships this weekend, March 8-11, at Howelson Hill and Mount Werner near Steamboat Springs, Colo. Daw, Gustavus' first national qualifier (male or female), is one of six participants in women's Nordic from a Division III school. Daw will run the 5K Classic race Thursday morning and the 15K Freestyle Saturday afternoon.
