Gustavus senior tight end Brayton Finch (Mount Morris, Ill.) was named D3football.com All-America honorable mention prior to kickoff of the NCAA Division III championship game Friday night.

D3football.com released its 2019 All-West Region Teams on Tuesday and two Gustavus student-athletes received recognition. For the second consecutive season, tight end Brayton Finch (Sr., Mount Morris, Ill.) earned First Team honors, while wide receiver Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg) was honored on the Second Team.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released its football postseason awards Tuesday and six Gustavus student-athletes were named First Team All-Conference – Brayton Finch (Sr., Mount Morris, Ill.), Zach Jakes (So., Mankato), Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin), Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg), Kaleb Scott (Jr., Gardena, Calif.), and Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker).
Football Closes Out Season with Decisive Win Over St. Olaf
The Gustavus football team closed out its 2019 season Saturday with a 49-7 win over St. Olaf. With the win the Gusties complete the season at 7-3 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC, while the Oles finish 5-5 overall and 3-5 in conference. The seven wins are the most for the Gusties since 2015.
Football Finishes Season with Senior Day Against St. Olaf Saturday
The Gustavus football team will wrap up its season Saturday as they host St. Olaf for a 1 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC while the Oles are 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
Football Comes Up Short at St. Thomas, Loses 57-36
The Gustavus football team went point-for-point with St. Thomas in the early-going Saturday and made a strong comeback effort late in the game, but eventually lost by a score of 57-36. The Gusties move to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC while the Tommies move to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC.
Football Rolls to 59-27 Win Over Augsburg
The Gustavus football team made it three straight wins Saturday after defeating Augsburg 59-27. Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker) tied Mitch Hendricks school and MIAC record with seven touchdown passes in the contest, while Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin) tied the program record with four touchdown grabs.
Late Game Heroics Lead to Football’s First Road Win at Concordia Since 2010
Trailing by one with 30 seconds to play and the ball on its own 22 yard line, the odds were stacked against the Gustavus football team. Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker) took a snap and ended up scrambling left from the pocket before unleashing a deep ball on the run that traveled 50 yards in the air and was caught by Josh Kirk (Sr., Garvin) on the left sideline, which he was able to take in for the score.
Finch Named D3football.com All-West Region First Team
D3football.com released its All-West Region Teams on Tuesday morning and Gustavus junior tight end Brayton Finch (Mount Morris, Ill.) is named to the First Team Offense. Finch is the first Gustie football player to be named All-West First Team since wide receiver Matthew Boyce in 2015.
