The Gustavus women's basketball team forced 29 turnovers and shot 44 percent from the field en route to a 67-30 victory over Viterbo University to conclude the Gustavus Classic Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court.

The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team hosts the Gustavus Class Tournament November 18-19, welcoming teams from Buena Vista University, the College of St. Scholastica, and Viterbo University. The Gusties take on St. Scholastica Friday at 6 p.m. and tip off against Viterbo at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Last Wednesday the Gustavus women’s basketball team participated in the inaugural Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Day of Service by volunteering at Mankato’s Emergency Community Help Organization (ECHO) Food Shelf. Student-athletes and the Gustavus coaching staff sorted food, cleaned a large walk-in freezer, and stocked shelves.
Remarkably, student-athletes in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) keep finding ways to achieve both in their chosen sports and in the classroom at ever-improving rates. For the first time in MIAC history, the conference recognized more than 1,000 student-athletes with Academic All-Conference honors. Gustavus has 58 student-athletes recognized as Winter-Spring Academic All-Conference.
Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball players Lindsey Johnson (Sr., Edina, Minn.) and Mikayla Miller (So., Goodhue, Minn.) were honored by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as All-Conference selections in its postseason awards that were released Thursday. In addition, Miranda Rice (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) was named to the MIAC Honorable Mention team.
The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team saw its 2015-16 season come to a close on Thursday, as it fell to No. 2 seed Saint Mary’s University in the MIAC Playoff Semifinals by a final score of 78-70. It was a game of runs that featured six ties and close play throughout, but the Cardinals were able to pull away down the stretch to advance to Saturday’s final. The Gusties finish their season with an overall record of 20-7.
After earning its first playoff win since 2012 on Tuesday evening, the Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball continues its postseason run with an MIAC Playoff Semifinal matchup against Saint Mary’s University on Thursday evening in Winona, Minn. The game will be the second in three days for the Gusties after their quarterfinal win against the College of Saint Benedict on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Saint Mary’s has been off from competition since Saturday, as it earned a first-round bye thanks to its No. 2 seed in the conference playoffs.
