Men in First, Women in Second After First Day of MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships

The Gustavus men's swimming team is in first place and the women's team is in second place after the first day of the MIAC Swimming Championships which are being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Looks for Fifth Straight MIAC Title

The four-time reigning Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Gustavus men's swimming and diving team will begin defense of its title Thursday morning at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The meet continues through Saturday, Feb. 18 with preliminaries beginning at 10:30 am and finals beginning at 6:30 pm each day.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Performs Well in Relays at Minnesota Challenge

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team, concentrating its efforts in the relays, registered a total of 19 top-eight relay finishes at last weekend's Minnesota Challenge at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. The Gusties won three of five relays and finished second in four with either their first or second team.

Cuevas Named MIAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus swimmer Billy Cuevas (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Jan. 29, 2006. Cuevas picked up individual wins in the 500 Free (4:45.71), 200 Butterfly (1:58.03) and 200 Individual Medley (2:00.92) in a 187-85 dual win over Saint John's Saturday in St. Peter. Cuevas is the fourth Gustie male swimmer to take home league honors this season.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Sprints Past Saint John’s 187-85

Led by four wins by junior Scott Hagemeyer (two individual, two relay) and three others by Billy Cuevas, the Gustavus men's swimming and diving team captured wins in 14 of 16 events en route to a 187-85 dual win over Saint John's Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. The Gusties, who set a pair of Lund Natatorium records in the win, improve to 7-0 in duals this season.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Downs Macalester 119-69

Although the Gustavus men's swimming and diving team finished second in both relays, the team picked up wins in nine of 11 individual competitions en route to a 119-69 win over Macalester in St. Paul Friday night. David Hawkinson swept the diving events, while Brian Amundson and Tyler Wakefield each picked up two individual wins and a runner-up in a relay. The Gusties, now 6-0 in duals this season, will face Saint John's Saturday afternoon in Lund Natatorium.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Second at UW-Stevens Point Invitational

Led by three individual runner-up finishes by sophomore Ben Hanson (Minnetonka, Minn.) and a trio of third-place finishes in relays, the Gustavus men's swimming and diving team finished second on Saturday at the Get to the Point Invitational in Stevens Point, Wis. The Gusties accumulated 680.5 points, finishing well behind men's champion Division II University of North Dakota, which picked up 968 points.

Gustavus Swimmers and Divers Listed Among MIAC Top Times of Season

Gustavus swimmers Scott Hagemeyer and Sara Pfau are among four individuals and three relays that have posted MIAC-best times in the pool so far this season. Hagemeyer has the fastest times in the 50 free and 100 free, while Pfau owns the top times so far in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.

Stewart Named MIAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Gustavus men's swimmer Matt Stewart (Fr., Burnsville, Minn.) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week. Stewart figured in three event wins and established two new pool records in the process during Gustavus' 210-80 dual win at Carleton on Saturday. Stewart won the 100 and 200 butterfly events, as well as posted a 47.5 second split in the 400 freestyle relay.

Men’s Swimming and Diving Tops Carleton 210-80

Powered by first-place finishes in 13 of 16 events, the Gustavus men's swimming and diving team downed Carleton 210-80 on Saturday afternoon in a dual at Thorpe Pool in Northfield. Scott Hagemeyer played a part in four of the victories, while Ben Hanson, Matt Stewart and Jeff Pearson each had their hand in three wins for Gustavus, which improved to 5-0 in duals this season.
