Men’s Nordic Skiing Takes Second Place At Saints Invitational

The Gustavus men's nordic ski team missed first place at the Saints Invitational in Collegeville, Minn. on Sunday afternoon by one point behind the College of St. Scholastica. The Golden Gusties earned 71 points in the 12K Freestyle race, behind 72 points for St. Scholastica. Both schools had three skiers finish in the top eight, but the Saints' third skier finished one place higher than the Gusties' third skier for the team win.

Nordic Ski Team Finishes 14th In The College Cup At U.S. Nationals

The Gustavus nordic ski teams combined for a 14th place finish in the College Cup at the United States Cross Country Ski Championships in Houghton, Michigan. The Golden Gusties also finished fifth among Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) schools. Northern Michigan University took first place for the second straight year nationally and in the CCSA. Final standings for the College Cup were determined with results from each school's top three skiers in each gender comprising an overall score.

Nordic Skiing Performs Well In Classic Course At U.S. Nationals

Distance competition concluded Thursday with classis races at the United States Cross Country Skiing Championships at the Michigan Tech Nordic Training Center in Houghton, Mich. Kathleen DeWahl (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) was the top female performer finished in 70th place (ninth among Central Collegiate Ski Association skiers). Jens Brabbit (Fy., Winona, Minn.) was the top skier for the Gustavus men as he finished in 135th place and 25th among CCSA skiers.

Nordic Skiers Finish Strong In The Freestyle Course at U.S. Nationals

Freestyle races kicked off the opening day of the United States Cross Country Skiing Championships at the Michigan Tech Nordic Training Center in Houghton, Mich. on Tuesday. Kelly Chaudoin recorded the highest finish by a Gustie women's skier with a 71st place finish overall (eighth among Central College Ski Association skiers) in the 10K women's race, while Jens Brabbit paced the Gustavus men with a 124th place finish, which was 22nd among CCSA skiers.

Nordic Skiers Perform Well At Trollhaugen Classic Sprints

The Gustavus men's and women's Nordic ski teams had strong showings at the first event of the season with six top-three finishes at the Trollhaugen Classic Sprints in Dresser, Wis. on December 8-9. Saturday's races consisted of 1.3 km classic sprint races, while 1.3 km freestyle classic sprint races were held on Sunday. Kathleen DeWahl (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) turned in the best performances of the weekend as she won both classic and freestyle races in the Women's Senior Division.

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic ski team will open its season this weekend at Junior Olympic Qualifying races in Dresser, Wis. Saturday's action will feature a 1-kilometer freestyle sprint race, while Sunday's races will highlight a 1-kilometer classic sprint race. Gustavus starts the season with numerous new faces on a squad that finished sixth at the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Regional Championships a year ago.

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic ski teams wrapped up their regular season by competing in the Central Collegiate Ski Association Regional Championships Feb. 16-17 in Ishpeming, Mich. The Gustie women's team finished fourth in an 11-team field with 145 team points, while the men finished 6th of 10 schools with 98 points.

Nordic Skiing Sweeps Team Titles at Minnesota Collegiate Championships

The Gustavus Adolphus men's and women's Nordic ski teams swept the team titles at the Minnesota Collegiate Championships Saturday at the Woodland Trails near Elk River, Minn. The tandem of Laura Edlund and Kelly Chaudoin took the women's race as Gusties teams occupied the top four spots. The best placed Gustavus men were Kevin Patzoldt and Scott Kyser in fourth.

Nordic Skiing Competes in Classic at Telemark NCAA Qualifier; Team Finishes Fourth

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic ski team wrapped up their weekend at the CCSA/NCAA Qualifier at Telemark Resort near Cable, Wis., by competing in classic technique races. The Gustavus women placed four in the top 25 overall, led by Sarah Willis in 19th place. The Gustavus men were led by Scott Kyser, who finished 52nd overall.

Nordic Skiing Competes in Freestyle at Telemark NCAA Qualifier

Eleven Gustavus Adolphus Nordic skiers competed in freestyle technique races Saturday at the FIS SuperTour/NCAA Qualifier at Telemark Resort near Cable, Wis. Laura Edlund finished 28th overall (18th among collegiate skiers) to lead the Gustie women, while Scott Kyser finished 53rd overall (28th among collegiate skiers) to lead the Gustavus men. The Gusties will close out the weekend by competing in Sunday's classic races.
