Gymnastics Finishes Sixth at WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional

The Gustavus gymnastics team posted its second best team score of the season Saturday at the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional hosted by UW-Oshkosh. The Gusties 186.925 earned them sixth place among eight competing teams, defeating both UW-Eau Claire and Hamline. Gustavus finished the day with six personal career-bests and eight season-high scores. 

Revenge is a Dish Best Served in the National Tournament

Revenge is a dish best served in the NCAA Tournament. The Gusties and the UW-River Falls Falcons met each other three times this season before their NCAA Tournament matchup. The Falcons won two of the teams' three games, including the final two of the regular season series. However, the Gusties made it count when it mattered most. 

Men’s Tennis Defeats No. 13 Trinity on First Day of Stag-Hen Invitational

The Gustavus men's tennis team sent a squad out to California to match up against some of the nation's best talent at the Stag-Hen Invitational, hosted by No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Gusties faced No. 13 Trinity University (Texas) in their first match of the weekend, defeating the Tigers 5-2.

Nelson Named USTFCCCA North Region Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year

Birgen Nelson added to her list of accomplishments Wednesday, as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2022-23 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year. Nelson was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Year for the North Region after a record-setting indoor season.

Gustavus and River Falls Set to Meet in NCAA Quarterfinal

Following their MIAC Championship victory, the Gustavus women's hockey team (24-3) is set to host UW-River Falls (23-3-1) in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championships at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Gusties and Falcons both earned a bye to the second round of the tournament, to be hosted at Don Roberts Ice Rink. Tournament play begins Wednesday night, with six teams competing for a chance at the quarterfinal, with the winners facing Amherst, Adrian, or SUNY-Plattsburgh on Saturday. Those victorious in round two will head to the Frozen Four, to be hosted by the highest remaining seed of the four teams. 

Women’s Hockey Breaks Record with Post-Season Honors

The Gustavus women's hockey team was nothing if not impressive all season, accumulating numerous player of the week honors, national recognition in both the NCAA Pairwise and USCHO.com polls, and sweeping both MIAC championships with just one conference loss all season. And as if there were no more records to break, the Gusties managed to find one more. With eight MIAC All-Conference selections, the 2022-23 Gusties set a new record for All-Conference selections in a season.

Otto Named MIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

Piper Otto picked up her first win of the season by throwing a five-inning no-hitter against North Central on 3/4. Otto struck out 12 of the 15 batters she faced as the Gusties cruised to a 12-0 victory over the Rams. Otto then helped Gustavus to its second win of the year with three more innings in the circle in an 11-5 victory over UW-Eau Claire on 3/5. For her performance, Otto was named MIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Softball Goes 1-1 Against Pair of WIAC Opponents

If the Gusties have proven anything in their second weekend of play, it's that when they win, they win big. The Gusties picked up their second win of the season with Sunday's game against UW-Eau Claire, defeating the Blugolds 11-5 in the victory. Later in the afternoon, the Gusties fell to UW-La Crosse by a tight 3-1 decision. 

Women’s Hockey to Host UW-River Falls for NCAA Quarterfinal

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on Sunday announced the 11-team field for its Division III Women’s Hockey Championship, and Gustavus (24-3), with the MIAC's automatic qualifier, got a bid to the quarterfinals as a host seed.

Track & Field Makes Final Push at Wartburg Qualifier

Gustavus track & field sent a small team of athletes to the Wartburg Qualifer Saturday for one last push to qualify for the NCAA National Indoors next weekend.
