ORLANDO, Fla. — Gustavus men’s tennis seniors Nick Aney (Rochester) and Daniel Fouchier (Nootdorp, Netherlands) ended their season Friday at the NCAA Doubles Championships, played at the USTA National Campus.
Aney and Fouchier met Case Western Reserve’s Christian Provenzano and Diego Maza in the second round matchup, falling 7-5 and 6-1 to end their season. With their win in the first round, Aney earns his third All-American honor and Fouchier his second.
“Nick and Daniel played the majority of the first set at a championship level today,” said Head Coach Tommy Valentini. “They got a bit unlucky looking for a break of serve and Case was able to get one late in the first, and found their footing to play well down the stretch.
“In the end we came up a bit short, but we can’t let that take away from what was a tremendous season for these two at No. 1 doubles for our team, and two great careers. Daniel earned his second All-American honor and Nick his third this week, but more importantly, they lived out our program’s values at a high level, grew a ton as players and people over the past 4-5 years, and have helped shape what it means to be a Gustie for generations to come.”
