SAINT PETER, Minn. – Gustavus women’s track & field athletes Birgen Nelson (Sr., Edina) and Annika Poe (Sr., Big Lake) have been selected to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, held Friday and Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.
Nelson holds the top time in the 60-hurdles at 8.35, an NCAA Division III record, and will run the prelims at 1:45 p.m. Friday. The 60-hurdles finals are 10:40 a.m. Saturday. Last season at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Nelson earned All-America status with a seventh place finish in 8.79, becoming the first Gustie woman in program history to earn Indoor All-America in an individual track event.
Poe owns the sixth best mark in the shot put at 14.55 meters (47-9) and will compete in the prelims at 2 p.m. Saturday. The finals will occur immediately after the prelims. Last season at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Poe earned All-America honors with an eighth place finish at 44-10.25.
