Chase Johnson Named Central Region ITA Assistant Coach of the Year

Gustavus men’s tennis assistant coach Chase Johnson has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year, which was announced Wednesday. 

SAINT PETER, Minn. – Gustavus men’s tennis assistant coach Chase Johnson has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year, which was announced Wednesday.

Johnson, a 2019 Gustavus graduate in his third season on the coaching staff, helped coach the Gusties to their 33rd consecutive MIAC regular season championship, 11th straight MIAC playoff title, and 10th consecutive NCAA region championship match. This season Johnson also coached two ITA All-Americans, the MIAC Elite 22 Award winner, MIAC Arthur Ashe Award winner, a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, and three All-Conference selections.

Every year the ITA recognizes coaches and players for their excellence on the court and in their communities throughout the season. The Division III Playing Awards include: Wilson ITA Coach of the Year, ITA Assistant Coach of the Year, Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship, ITA Rookie of the Year, ITA Most Improved Senior, ITA Senior Player of the Year, and ITA Community Service Award. The national award winners will be announced next Wednesday, June 15.
