MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s tennis team won its eighth consecutive match Sunday, beating St. Catherine 6-3 at the University of Minnesota’s Baseline Tennis Center. The Gusties, ranked No. 8 in the Central Region, improve to 16-6 overall and 8-0 in the MIAC, while the Wildcats, ranked No. 16 in the region, drop to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the league.
“It was a very good win today against a very tough team. So proud of the effort from everyone,” Head Coach Jon Carlson said. “Everyone is a leader on this team in their own way. It’s a credit to the seniors to allow this special team chemistry. It’s been the driving force for this team since our Whitewater match [last loss on April 1]. In our circle, at the end, I had to remind them to enjoy this win as they were already talking about what they need to do this week to get ready for next weekend.”
The Gusties started the match with a 2-1 deficit in doubles, winning 8-5 at No. 2, but bounced back by claiming five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
