SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team is back in MIAC play after hosting a non-conference home series when they travel to St. Thomas for a 7:30 p.m. contest on Friday, with the teams playing again Saturday at Don Roberts Ice Arena at 7:05 p.m. The Gusties enter 7-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the MIAC, while the Tommies are 8-6-2 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

GUSTAVUS GAME NOTES

THE SERIES…This weekend marks the 144th and 145th meetings between Gustavus and St. Thomas with the Tommies leading the all time series 72-62-9. St. Thomas has won seven of the past 10 meetings. Last season the Tommies swept the regular season series 3-2 and 3-1. Gustavus’s last win against the Tommies was in a 4-3 overtime in the MIAC semifinals in the 2017-18 matchup.

SCOUTING THE GUSTIES… Gustavus enters the contest most recently coming off a 3-3 tie to UW-Superior on Jan. 18. Through 13 games, the Gusties rank third in the MIAC with 3.07 goals per contest, while their 2.24 goals allowed are second. The Gusties have been efficient on the power play, scoring on 11-of-52 power play opportunities to lead the conference in power play percentage. Robbie Goor has been the primary goalie for the Gusties, making 261 saves while allowing 20 goals in 10 starts. Caleb Anderson leads the attack, scoring eight goals and dishing out 10 assists for a team-best 18 points, while Connor Clemons also has 14 points with five goals and nine assists with last weekend’s four point performance earning him MIAC athlete of the week honors.

SCOUTING THE TOMMIES… St. Thomas is most recently coming off a 3-3 non-conference tie over UW-Superior on Sunday. Through 16 games the Tommies score 3.44 goals per game which ranks first in the MIAC while their 2.78 goals allowed rank third. On special teams the Tommies are strong on the penalty kill, being ranked third in the conference on shorthanded goals. John Peterson leads the pack with 14 points from six goals and eight assists, while Brett Gravelle also has 11 points, scoring five goals and six assists.
