Men’s Hoops Looks to Bounce Back Saturday Against Concordia

GUSTAVUS GAME NOTES

The Series: Saturday’s game marks the 185th meeting between Gustavus and Concordia on the hardwood with the Gusties leading the all-time series 118-66. The Gusties have won the last four meetings, most recently beating the Cobbers 81-68 on Feb. 16.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus is coming off a 66-52 loss to No. 13 Saint John’s on Wednesday. The Gusties played well defensively and turned the ball over just four times – the fewest in five years – but shot a pedestrian 30.4 percent from the floor. Through seven games, Gustavus leads the MIAC with 3.9 blocks per game and averages 35.9 rebounds (6th/MIAC). The Gusties average 72.6 points and shoot 43.1 percent from the floor. Logan Rezac leads the team with 13.7 points, while shooting 40.7 percent. Nolan Malo and Isaac Douglas also average double figures with 12.1 and 10.4 points per game, respectively. Jake Guse paces the squad on the low post, averaging a team-high 6.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks.

Scouting the Cobbers: After starting the season 2-2, Concordia has dropped its last four games, most recently losing 78-55 to Carleton on Wednesday. Through eight games, the Cobbers average 66.3 points and shoot 43.9 percent from the floor. They haul in 31.5 rebounds per game and have a -4.0 rebound margin. The Cobbers are strong on the perimeter, shooting 38.9 percent from three-point range, which is second best in the MIAC. Tommy Schyma leads the team with 15.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He is shooting 46.9 percent from the floor and has made a team-high 15 three-pointers and is 22-of-30 from the free throw line.
