SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s soccer team travels to Augsburg Wednesday night for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The Gusties enter the contest 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC, while the Auggies are 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.
The Series: Tonight’s game marks the 35th meeting between Gustavus and Augsburg with the Gusties leading the all-time series 17-15-2. Last season the Auggies won 2-0 on Sept. 29 in Saint Peter. Ashley St. Aubin and Callie Athey scored goals in the first 12 minutes of the game. Augsburg has won the last three games between the two teams.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus most recently lost 1-0 at St. Kate’s on Saturday. Through eight games, Katie Ashpole (Jr., Chaska) leads the offense with seven points on three goals and an assist. Abby Mullenbach (Sr., Lakeville) is close behind with two goals and an assist. Ashley Becker (Sr., Farmington) has started all eight games in goal with a 2.05 goals against average and a .719 save percentage. Becker’s 42 saves are second most in the MIAC. Gustavus is seeking its first road win of the season.
Scouting the Auggies: Augsburg has won its last two games, most recently beating Saint Mary’s 1-0 on Saturday. Ashley St. Aubin leads the offense with 20 points (5th/MIAC) on nine goals and two assists. St. Aubin leads the MIAC with 58 shots this season. Gabriela Encarnacion is also in double figures with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Emily Chapman has started all eight games in goal with a 1.29 goal against average and a .778 save percentage.
