SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team will play host to St. Catherine on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match. The Gusties enter with an 8-8 overall record and 1-1 mark in the MIAC while the Wildcats are 10-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
The Series: Wednesday’s contest marks the 70th all-time meeting between the two teams with the Gusties leading the series 43-24-2. The two teams last met on Sept. 29, 2018 with the Gusties taking a 3-0 victory.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus enters the contest most recently following a 3-0 loss to Northwestern-St. Paul Saturday. Through 15 contests the Gusties are led by Kate Holtan (Jr., Rochester) with 180 kills, while first-years Sarah Elliott (Fy., Lombard, Ill.) and Rhyan Herrmann (Fy., Brownton) have 128 and 110, respectively. Kaylyn Johnston (Fy., Urbana, Ill.) has a team-high 355 assists while Hailey Embacher (Jr., Mankato) leads the Black and Gold with 262 digs. The Gusties have hit above a clip of .200 eight times this season, going 7-1 in those contests, while they hold a record of 1-7 when they hit under that mark.
Scouting the Wildcats: St. Catherine comes into the contest most recently following a 3-0 victory over Crown Friday. Emma Nelson leads the Wildcats through 15 matches, totaling a team-high 156 kills to go along with 227 digs. Lauren Isaacson, Erin Cutts, and Erin Tebben also all have 100-plus kills for St. Kate’s with Cutts posting an attack percentage of .320. Marissa Gilbertson has been the team’s top setter, totaling 337 assists, while libero Grace Amacher has 251 digs.
