Volleyball Travels to UW-Eau Claire for Weekend Slate

The Gustavus volleyball team heads to UW-Eau Claire this weekend for the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament. The Gusties play Linfield College and Lakeland University at 3 and 7 p.m. Friday before playing Carthage College and UW-Eau Claire at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team heads to UW-Eau Claire this weekend for the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament. The Gusties play Linfield College and Lakeland University at 3 and 7 p.m. Friday before playing Carthage College and UW-Eau Claire at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus has started the season 4-4, most recently dropping two contests on Sept. 7 to WashU and St. Norbert. Through eight games Kate Holtan (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) leads the attack with 94 kills, while Sarah Elliott (Fy., Lombard, Ill.) has 74.Kaylyn Johnston (Fy., Urbana, Ill.) has recorded 206 set assists for the Gusties while Hailey Embacher (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) has 151 digs.

Scouting the Wildcats: Linfield is 3-5 this season, most recently going 2-2 at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational. Through eight matches this season the Wildcats are led Raelynn Hammock who has 57 kills and Megan Stanek who has totaled 47. Aylea Dixon is the team’s primary setter, assisted on 165 kills this season.

Scouting the Muskies: Lakeland is 3-4 on the year, most recently falling to Carthage on Sept. 6 3-0. Shannon Bishop and Abby Baumgartner lead the charge with 76 and 68 kills, respectively. Neenah Primas has recorded 231 assists on the season while Sydney Pingitore leads the team with 85 digs.

Scouting the Lady Reds: Carthage is 7-1 on the year, most recently defeating Bethel 3-0 on Sept. 7. The Lady Reds have had a balanced attack this season led by the duo of Megan Behrendt and Haley Horner with 74 kills apiece. Ellie LeCount has 261 set assists this season to go along with 18 service aces while Laura de Rosales has 122 digs.

Scouting the Blugolds: Following a 2018 Final Four appearance, the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds have started 2019 4-3, most recently going 2-1 at the Auggie Invite. Eau Claire is led on the attack by Arianna Barret who has 75 kills this year and Makenzie Bachmann with 63. Leah Witzel and Abbey Pederson have been the teams main setters with 129 and 104 assists, respectively, while Taylor Scalia leads the team with 123 digs.
