SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus cross country program hosted its annual alumni meet Saturday at the Linnaeus Arboretum with a split men’s and women’s 5k. There were no other collegiate teams competing, so the results are unofficial.

“We love having everyone back,” Head Coach Brenden Huber said. “We really look at this team as a family. This is years in the making and so many people are proud of this program. To have everyone back celebrating is awesome.”

Alex Wischnack `19 won the men’s race with a time of 16:21. Jeremy Gilbertson (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) took second place at 16:31 and James Sorenson `05 claimed bronze at 16:37. The current team won the men’s event with 24 points compared to the alumni’s 35.

Kourtney Kulseth (Jr., New Richland, Minn.) crossed the line first in the women’s race with a time of 19:18. Nichole Porath `05 placed second at 19:35 and Kate Eggers-Leaf `13 took third at 19:59. The 2019 Gusties won the event over the alumni 27-32.

The Gusties run their first official race of the season Saturday at the Crown College Invite in St. Bonifacius, Minn. The women’s race starts at 10 a.m. followed by the men at 10:45.

“We have another week of training to get stronger,” Huber said. “They are still pretty tired from two-a-days this past week, but we’re excited to go to Crown a turn it up a little more and keep building toward the MIAC Championships at the end of the year. We’re still spinning the wheels, getting the first-years more experience, and knocking the rust off the returners.”
