SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 16 Gustavus men’s tennis team starts its postseason run Thursday at home against Bethel. The MIAC semifinal match at the Brown Outdoor Tennis Complex begins at 3:30 p.m.
The Gusties (17-7 overall) top singles lineup includes Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manakin Sabot, Va.) at No. 1, where he holds an 11-7 record. Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) is No. 2 with a 14-3 mark. Yassine Derbani (Jr., Casablanca, Morocco) plays at No. 3 with a 11-2 record. Michael O’Neil (Jr., Edina, Minn.) handles the No. 4 spot with a 6-7 record. Nick Aney (Fy., Rochester, Minn.) is at No. 5 with a 9-4 record, and Indraneel Raut (Fy., Oshkosh, Wis.) rounds out the lineup at No. 6 with a 6-5 record. The Gusties are a combined 52-2 in singles matches against conference opponents this season.
Bethel (12-9 overall) advanced to the MIAC semifinals with a 5-3 win over Macalester on Tuesday. The Gusties and Royals last faced each other Feb. 16 at the Swanson Tennis Center in a 9-0 decision. Here are the results from that match:
