Men’s Golf Tied for First at Saint John’s Invite

The Gustavus men’s golf team competed at day one of the SJU Spring Invitational on Saturday and came out in a tie for first with Saint John’s. The Gusties and Johnnies both tied with scores of 292, while St. Thomas is in third with a 295.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team competed at day one of the SJU Spring Invitational on Saturday and came out in a tie for first with Saint John’s. The Gusties and Johnnies both tied with scores of 292, while St. Thomas is in third with a 295.

“The guys showed up ready to play today,” said Head Coach Scott Moe. “We did a good job of recovering from a few missed shots. It was great to see some putts fall today as we were able to roll in a number of birdies. We had three really nice scores posted by Ben, Max,and Jacob. Looking forard to a great day tomorrow at Monticello as 36 holes will be a really fun day on that golf course. Nice to see the guys at the top of the leaderboard after day one.”

Ben Hauge (Jr., Ramsey, Minn)  led Gustavus on day one by posting a score of 70 which puts him in second place overall. Max Ullan (So., Blaine, Minn.) also shot well on the day posting a score of 72 which tied him for third, while Jacob Pedersen (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.)  tied for ninth with a score of 73. Carter Czichotzki (So., Moorhead, Minn.) and Thomas Carlson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) rounded out the top five with scores of 77 and 78 respectively.

Gustavus also had a second team in the meet and they are currently tied for 10th with a score of 308. Joe Foley (Jr., East Gull Lake, Minn.) and Blake Heiman (Sr., River Falls, Wis.) led the charge with scores of 74 and 76, respectively. Sam Skaar (Fy., Bovey, Minn.) totaled a 77 and Christian Thoen (Jr., Dawson, Minn.) shot an 81 to round out the teams score.
