SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 11 Gustavus volleyball team continues MIAC action Thursday night as it travels to Macalester. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Leonard Center. The Gusties enter the match 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC after beating Macalester in straight sets Saturday, while the Scots are 7-10 overall and 0-4 in the league, most recently losing 3-0 to St. Thomas on Tuesday.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus boasts one of the best attacking offenses in the MIAC, ranking second in both kills per set (13.06) and assists per set (12.10), and third in hitting percentage (.237). Kate Holtan (So., Rochester, Minn.) paces the attack with 3.33 kills per set and 170 total kills – both fourth in the MIAC. Nora Holtan (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) directs the offense with 9.82 assists per set (3rd/MIAC) and her .332 attack percentage is third best in the league. Brittany Luethmers (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) is the team’s top defender, averaging 4.59 digs per set. She is 25 digs shy of her 2,000th career dig and is about to become the second Gustavus volleyball player to reach the milestone.
Scouting the Scots: Macalester’s strength is on the serve with a league-leading 122 aces (1.94 per set). Grace Brickner leads the offense with 2.42 kills per set, which is run through Emily Bower who averages 7.34 assists per set. Abrielle Dillon leads the defense with 4.48 digs per set. The Scots are currently on a three-match losing streak.
