Track & Field Student-Athletes Compete In NCAA Last Chance Meet

Four Gustavus track & field student-athletes competed at an NCAA Final Qualifier on Thursday at UW-La Crosse, hoping to improve their marks to qualify for the NCAA Championships on May 24-26.

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Four Gustavus track & field student-athletes competed at an NCAA Final Qualifier on Thursday at UW-La Crosse, hoping to improve their marks to qualify for the NCAA Championships on May 24-26.

Taylor Rooney (Fy., Andover, Minn.) ran the 110-meter hurdle prelims in 14.78 and finished first in the finals at 14.89. His time of 14.61 at the MIAC Championships ranks 23rd in Division III. Michael Hensch (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) finished fourth in the shot put with a new outdoor personal best heave of 52-11, which ranks 19th in Division III.

Kayla Stowell (Jr., Le Sueur, Minn.) ran the 100-meter prelims in 12.52 and finished fifth in the finals at 12.47. Her time of 12.15 at the MSU Twilight ranks 27th in Division III. And Katie Keelin (So., Burnsville, Minn.) unleashed the hammer at a distance of 159-8 to take seventh place. Her throw of 163-8 at the MSU Twilight ranks 33rd in Division III.

The declaring deadline for athletes to compete at the NCAA Championships is this weekend and the field will be announced Monday.
