Women’s Tennis Set With Three Matches Ahead

The No. 35-ranked Gustavus women’s tennis team is set for a three-match weekend slate all at home, beginning with a matchup versus Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday prior to a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches against Carleton College and the University of St. Thomas Saturday and Sunday.

ST. PETER, Minn. – The No. 35-ranked Gustavus women’s tennis team is set for a three-match weekend slate all at home, beginning with a matchup versus Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday prior to a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches against Carleton College and the University of St. Thomas Saturday and Sunday.

Last time out: The Gusties (8-7, 4-0 MIAC) return to action for the first time in two weeks after their matches were postponed last weekend due to the heavy snowfall. The Black and Golf last competed April 6-7 at the Midwest Invite in Madison, Wis., going 1-2 against ranked opponents. Gustavus defeated No. 39-ranked DePauw University 6-3 prior to falling 8-1 against the University of Chicago and 7-2 against No. 22-ranked Kenyon College.

Katie Aney (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) was named the MIAC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week. Competing at the No. 3 singles position, Aney went 3-0 as her performance was highlighted by earning the team’s sole point against the University of Chicago, winning 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. She has won her last eight singles matches, with her last loss coming in February at Division I Butler.
