Men’s Basketball Set To Host Tommies Wednesday

The Gustavus men’s basketball team is set to conclude its season series with the University of St. Thomas Wednesday evening, hosting the Tommies at Gus Young Court. The Gusties (9-7, 7-4 MIAC) and the Tommies (9-7, 7-4 MIAC) are set to tipoff at 7 p.m.

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team is set to conclude its season series with the University of St. Thomas Wednesday evening, hosting the Tommies at Gus Young Court. The Gusties (9-7, 7-4 MIAC) and the Tommies (9-7, 7-4 MIAC) are set to tipoff at 7 p.m.

The Series

Wednesday’s game marks the 192nd meeting between Gustavus and St. Thomas on the hardwood, with the Tommies holding a 117-74 advantage in the all-time series. St. Thomas owns a six-game winning streak over the Gusties currently and recently defeated Gustavus 61-54 on its home court in St. Paul, Minn. Dec. 13.

Last Time Out

The Gusties dropped their second consecutive conference game last Saturday at Gus Young Court during their largest defeat of the season, falling 90-59 against Augsburg University. The Gusties allowed a season-high 32 field goals, including 14 from long-range.

Riley Sharbono (Jr., Marshall, Minn.) led Gustavus with 18 points, going 7-9 from the field and 2-4 from three-point range. Brandon Snoberger (Jr., Rice, Minn.) followed with 10 points and tied for the team-lead in rebounds with Kelsey Thomas (Sr., Wiesdbaden, Germany), each claiming six.

About the Tommies

Since a win over the Gusties in December, St. Thomas has posted a 5-2 record, most recently having a three-game winning streak snapped at Saint John’s University as the Tommies fell 77-62. Prior to Saturday’s loss versus the No. 12-ranked Johnnies, St. Thomas posted at least 80 points in wins over Concordia, St. Olaf, and Bethel. Senior forward Ryan Boll leads the Tommie offense with an average of 14.8 points per game, while leading the team with 9.0 rebounds per game (3rd/MIAC).
