ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team is set to continue Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, heading to Minneapolis, Minn. to take on Augsburg University. The Gusties (4-2, 2-0 MIAC) will tip off against the Auggies (5-0, 3-0 MIAC) at 7 p.m.
The Series
Wednesday’s game marks the 180th meeting between Gustavus and Augsburg on the hardwood, with the Gusties holding a 108-71 advantage in the all-time series. The Gusties are currently riding a three-game win streak against Augsubrg and swept the Auggies with 78-75 and 78-55 victories last season.
Last Time Out
The Gusties earned their second consecutive conference victory last Saturday at Gus Young Court, defeating St. Olaf College 67-62, snapping a 10- game losing streak against the Oles. Gustavus out-rebounded St. Olaf 41-29, shot 25-for-57 from the field, and 7-for-17 from beyond the arc. Jason Faul (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) and Riley Sharbono (Jr., Marshall, Minn.) led the Gustavus offense with 16 points each. Kelsey Thomas (Sr., Wiesbaden, Germany) also added 10 points and led the team with eight rebounds.
About the Auggies
Augsburg is unbeaten during its 2017-18 campaign and is off to a 3-0 start to conference play with victories over Concordia College, Bethel University, and Saint Mary’s University. The Auggies most recently defeated Saint Mary’s last Saturday, connecting 37-of-68 field goals and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc, winning 93-74. The Auggies lead the MIAC with 21.4 assists per game and 9.2 steals per game, while ranking second with a scoring average of 82.6. Senior forward Collin Olmscheid leads Augsburg with 19.6 points per game (3rd/ MIAC) and 5.2 rebounds per game.
