MOORHEAD, Minn. – The No. 11-ranked Gustavus volleyball team was upset Friday evening at Concordia College as the Cobbers snapped the Gusties eight-game winning streak with a sweep at Memorial Auditorium.

Hanna Albers (Jr., St. Louis, Mo.) led the Black and Gold with nine kills, while Kate Holtan (Fy., Rochester, Minn.), Nora Holtan (Jr., Rochester, Minn.), and Claire Laakso (Sr., Bemidji, Minn.) each added six. N. Holtan tallied 22 assists and hit .500. Brittany Luethmers (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) notched 18 digs.
Gustavus was limited to 33 kills and a .076 attack percentage while being plagued with 23 errors. The Cobbers totaled 41 kills and posted a .186 hitting percentage.
The visiting Gusties grabbed a 3-0 lead to begin the first set prior to both team going back and forth throughout. After the scoreboard read 18-18, Concordia went on a 7-5 run to close out the set and take a 1-0 lead.
Concordia took control after an even start to the second frame. The Cobbers tallied a match-high 15 kills and limited the Gusties to 11 kills and a .146 attack percentage. With the score tied 5-5 early one, the home team went on an 11-6 run to force a Gustie timeout and held on to the lead for the rest of the set.
Near the midway point of the final set, Gustavus held an 18-13 lead. After a Concordia timeout, the Cobber battled back and went on a 13-6 run to complete the sweep.
The Gusties, now 21-4 overall and 6-2 during Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, next head to the College of Saint Benedict tomorrow afternoon.
