ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team continues Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon, traveling to Minneapolis, Minn. to take on Augsburg University.
The Gusties (6-4-0 overall, 2-2-0 MIAC) will look to carry the momentum from their Wednesday victory into the match against the Auggies (6-3-0, 2-1-0 MIAC), taking the pitch at 5 p.m.
Gustavus most recently claimed a 2-1 win at St. Olaf College Wednesday afternoon. Matt Murakami (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Arthur Parens (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) tallied the Gustie goals, while goalkeeper Matt Bateman (Jr., Savage, Minn.) made five saves and the team tallied a season-high 11 shots on goal in the victory over the Oles.
Parens is the Gusties’ leading scorer, ranking second in the MIAC with six goals on the season, while Matt Gibbons (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) leads the team with five assists, the fourth most in the conference. Goalkeeper Matt Bateman ranks second in the league with 36 saves and owns a .720 save percentage and 1.46 goals against average.

- Saturday’s matchup marks the 64th all-time meeting between the Gusties and the Auggies, with Gustavus holding a 39-18-6 advantage. Last year, Augsburg ended the Gusties season with a 2-1 victory in St. Peter during a MIAC Playoffs Quarterfinal matchup after Gustavus defeated the Auggies 2-1 in overtime at Edor Nelson Field earlier in the season.
- Augsburg owns a 6-3 overall record on the season and most recently suffered its first conference loss at Saint John’s University on Tuesday, falling 2-1 after opening the conference slate with wins over Bethel University and Saint Mary’s University.
- The Auggie attack is led by Lionel Vang and Aidan Sim-Campos, who have three goals each. A combined effort has guided the goalkeeping unit, as Clark Page, Tommy Molski, and Garrett Kaelin have each seen significant time in net.
