Men’s Tennis Opens 2017 Fall Season At Drake Invite

The Gustavus men’s tennis team kicks off the 2017 fall season Friday through Sunday at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa.

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s tennis team kicks off the 2017 fall season Friday through Sunday at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa.

Drake University hosts the three-day round robin tournament at Roger Knapp Tennis Center. Four singles flights and two doubles flights will be competing from Gustavus, Coe College, Drake, Creighton University, University of Nebraska, Northern Illinois University, Northwest Missouri University, Nebraska Omaha and Tulsa University.

Mohanad Alhouni (Sr., Tripoli, Libya) and Zach Ekstein (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) will take part in singles flight one, while Chase Johnson (Jr., Golden Valley, Minn.) and Patrick Whaling (Jr., Manikob Sabot, Va.) are in flight two. Gabe Steinwand (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.), Michael O’Neil (So., Edina, Minn.), and Tommy Entwistle (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) are in flight three, and in flight four will be Mason Bultje (Sr., Mankato, Minn.), Xaiver Sanga (Fy., Middleton, Wis.), Mouaad Alhouni (Fy., Tripoli, Libya), and Lawrence Hiquiana (Fy., Downers Grove, Ill).

The duos of Mohanad Alhouni/Whaling, Entwistle/Johnson, and Ekstein/Derbani will compete in doubles flight one, while O’Neil/Sanga, Bultje/Steinwand, and Hiquiana/Mouaad Alhouni will participate in flight two.

Last season at the Drake Invite, Mohanad Alhouni claimed a runner-up finish in the flight one singles draw. 

Gustavus returns home to Swanson Tennis Center to host the 2017 ITA Midwest Regional Championships September 29-October 2.
