MENOMONIE – UW-Stout’s Kelly Stolarczyk (Jr, Elk River, Minn) scored in the 13th minute as the Blue Devils forged a 1-1 overtime tie with Gustavus Adolphus in the season opener, Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Nelson Field.
Gustavus (0-0-1) scored early, pulling Stout goalkeeper Melissa Ballweg (Sr, Merrimac) out of the goal when Jenna Iaizzo scored in the fourth minute of the game.
Stolarczyk got the equalizer at 13:04 when she took passes from Tina Dora (So, Kenosha) and Chesley Seawell (Jr, St. Anthony, Minn) in front of the net.
Stout (0-0-1) played most of the second half and the overtime periods in the Gustavus zone, but could not crack Gusties goalie Tori Boughton as the Blue Devils pelted her with 21 shots on goal on the muggy night. Stout had five shots-on-goal in the third period and six in the fourth period. On the evening, Stout outshot Gustavus, 28-17.
Ballweg finished the game with eight saves, four in the first half and two in the final period.
