MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team remains second place after day two and sessions three and four of the MIAC Championships with 459.5 points.

The Black and Gold claimed two all-conference relay finishes along with one individual all-conference time.

“Another great day for the Gusties, I was proud of the way everybody competed,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “There is just a certain energy that the team has that is carrying us through each session. They have fed off each other and get after each race. It is very evident that they are swimming not just for their own improvement, but for the team.”

The Gusties began the evening final session with a strong finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Hayley Booher (Sr., Warren, Vt.), Maddie Westendorp (Fy., St. Michael, Minn.), Kate Reilly (Jr., Hastings, Minn.), and Maggie Webster (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) earned a NCAA B-cut qualifying time at 1:45.56 to claim a runner-up and all-conference finish.

Another relay runner-up finish came from the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Nicole Lohman (Sr., North Mankato, Minn.), Sydney Hallmark (So., Cedarburg, Wis.), Haley Pesik (So., Eagan, Minn.), and Webster. They finished at 7:49.19 to earn an all-conference time.

In the 400-yard individual medley, Booher and Linnea Rizzo (So., Woodbury, Minn.) finished in fourth (4:34.17) and fifth (4:34.51) to both qualify for NCAA B-cut times.

“If you went by sheet times, the women were expected to finish third,” Carlson commented. “So for us to be convincingly in second place, we are very pleased.”

Tomorrow marks the final day of the championships with the morning session scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the final session at 6:30 p.m.
