Alhouni Takes Third Place In ITA Oracle Cup Singles

Mohanad Alhouni (Jr., Tripoli, Libya) of the Gustavus men’s tennis team earned a third place finish at the ITA Oracle Cup singles draw after defeating Michael Rozenvasser of Carnegie Mellon University Saturday morning at the Surpise Tennis and Racquet Club.

SURPRISE, Ariz.Mohanad Alhouni (Jr., Tripoli, Libya) of the Gustavus men’s tennis team earned a third place finish at the ITA Oracle Cup singles draw after defeating Michael Rozenvasser of Carnegie Mellon University Saturday morning at the Surpise Tennis and Racquet Club.

Alhouni, who came into the singles draw as the No. 3 seed, defeated Rozenvasser by scores of 6-2, 6-3 to claim the third place finish of eight participants.

In the first round, Alhouni beat Nikolai Parodi of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 before falling to Lubomir Cuba of Middlebury College by scores of 4-6, 1-6 to make his way to the third place match.

Aman Manji, the No. 4 seed of Emory University took down Lubomir Cuba of Middlebury College by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to win the singles finals.

“Today was a great bounce back effort from Mohanad,” said Head Coach Tommy Valentini. “He did a nice job of focusing on what was within his control and calmly executing his game plan. He was able to mix good defense with the right offensive patterns to neutralize Rosenvasser’s huge weapons. To finish third at this prestigious event is a great accomplishment and honor for Mohanad. We will work to use the experience gained here to help him build confidence and trust in his game and for our group heading into the spring.”
