ST. PETER, Minn. – Following a weekend in which it faced the toughest of competition, the Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team remained at No. 9 in the most recent USCHO.com poll that was released Monday. The Gusties competed well, but fell to No. 2 Elmira College 2-1 and No. 1 Plattsburgh State 5-3 this past Saturday and Sunday at the Panther/Cardinal Classic in Middlebury, Vermont.
The Gusties led in each of their two games against the nation’s top two teams, but were unable to hang on in either, as they held a 1-0 lead against Elmira, and a 3-1 lead versus Plattsburgh State heading into the third period.
The narrow losses to the nation’s top teams dropped Gustavus to 3-3-2 overall this season and 2-1-1 in conference play, tied for third place with five points. The Gusties return to MIAC play this weekend with a home-and-home series against the College of Saint Benedict. Friday’s game will be in St. Cloud, Minn., at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday’s 2 p.m. rematch to take place at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter.
