2015-16 MIAC Women’s Basketball Preview
ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s basketball team will open its 2015-16 season on Monday evening when it travels to New Ulm, Minnesota for a non-conference contest with Martin Luther College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
Last Season
With a young, but talented lineup, the Gusties exceeded many expectations during the course of the 2014-15 season and made its way back to the MIAC playoffs for a league-best 15th consecutive year. After going 11-7 in conference play, Gustavus finished tied for third place in the conference standings with Saint Mary’s and Concordia. Because of league tiebreaker rules, the Gusties traveled to Winona, Minnesota for an MIAC Playoff Quarterfinal matchup against Saint Mary’s. There, the Gusties caught the Cardinals on their best shooting night of the season, and as a result, saw their season come to an end with a 90-58 loss. Coach Laurie Kelly’s squad finished its season with an overall record of 17-9.

The Gusties will feature a lineup of 16 total players, including two seniors, four juniors, five sophomores, and five first-years. Last season, Johnson earned All-Conference honors, was second on the team in scoring (10 ppg) and field goal percentage (46.6), averaged 4.1 rebounds per game, led the team in three-point shooting percentage (41.4), and ranked fifth in the conference in free-throw percentage (81.6). Miller became the first Gustavus rookie to earn a spot on the All-Conference team since the 1996-97 season, started in all 26 games games as first-year, and led the team in scoring 15 times. She ranked third in the conference in points per game (16.2), second in minutes per game (34.7), and third in assists (69) and steals (49). In Gustavus single-season history, Miller ranks ninth in points (446), sixth in free throws (100), and third in steals (78).
